Yitzhak Shoval passed away in his sleep, at his home in Kingston on Monday morning.
Yitzhak, also known here as Isaac, was born in Pinsk, Belarus, in 1918, to Bella and Yehuda. He served in the Polish Brigade in the Russian Army throughout World War II, and, at the end of the war, entered a Displaced Persons camp in the American zone, in Linz, Austria. There he met and married his wife of 43 years, Rivkah Hoof Shoval.
The American JOINT Distribution Committee was responsible for the family's relocation to the new State of Israel in 1949. Yitzhak became a bookkeeper in the city of Netanya. In 1984, he and Rivkah relocated to the United States and Yitzhak spent about ten years working for Guard Insurance Group in Wilkes Barre, after which he retired.
Yitzhak was pre-deceased by his parents, one sister and three brothers, all of whom perished in World War II, and by his wife, Rivkah. He is survived by his brother, Yaacov, and Yaacov's daughter, Bella Shahaff, both of Netanya, Israel.
Family, of course, was extremely important to him. He is survived in Wilkes-Barre by his loving children, Yehuda Judd Shoval and Edna Tevet. His grandchildren are Ben Shoval of Seattle, Washington; Deb Shoval, NYC; Dr. Karyn Gunnet-Shoval (mother of Isabel, Elliana and Yitzhak) of NYC; Rebecca Shoval, NYC; Shirlee Tevet Cohen (mother of Bram & Madeline) of Athens, GA; and Dan Tevet of Cambridge, MA.
Grave-side services, administered by Rabbi Roger Lerner at Temple B'nai Brith's cemetery in Wilkes Barre, will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:00, with arrangements by Rosenberg Funeral Home. Due to the Jewish holiday of Succot, shiva will not be observed, but there will be calling hours Wednesday evening between 7 and 9pm at the home of Edna and David Tevet, 799 Milford Drive, Kingston.
Contributions, if desired, may be made to CEO/Dinners for Kids, 84 S. Wyoming Avenue, Edwardsville, PA. 18704.
