Sylvia Fischbein, 86, of Harveys Lake, died peacefully January 17, 2015, at Lakeside Nursing Home, with family and Hospice of the Sacred Heart at her side, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Sylvia was born in Brooklyn, NY, and was the daughter of the late David and Sarah Steinberg Goldberg. She was a graduate of Hofstra University and was a Professor of Speech and Language at Nassau Community College. She also taught speech pathology at Commack School District on Long Island for over twenty years.
She was an avid ballroom dancer and enjoyed playing bridge. She always emphasized the importance of education. She was a member of the Long Island Speech and Hearing Association and Jewish Community Center for many years.
Preceding her in death was her loving husband, Alvin Fischbein on November 10, 2008 and brother, Ernest Goldberg on October 11, 2013.
She is survived by sons, Dr. Richard Fischbein and his wife, Susan, Harveys Lake; Dr. Jeffrey Fischbein, Central Park, NY; grandchildren, Emily and her husband, Gregory Piazza; Rachel Fischbein and one great grandson, Oliver Piazza.
She is also survived by her sister in law, Bernice Goldberg along with nieces Pam and Eileen; nephews, Michael and Joshua Goldberg and Paul and Mark Fischbein.
Graveside funeral service will be, Tuesday, January 20, 2015, in Beth David Cemetery, Long Island, NY at 1:00 PM.
