SYLVIA BARRAS MOSKOWITZ

Sylvia Barras Moskowitz, 92, passed away in Boca Raton, FL, on Friday, March 25, 2016.

Born in New York City, she was the daughter of Dr. Oscar and Pauline Janowsky.

Sylvia was a graduate of the Jewish Theological Seminary College of Jewish Studies and Hunter College. She received a Master's Degree from the Columbia University School of Social Work and was a social worker at Community Counseling of Wilkes-Barre for many years. She contributed articles to the Congress Weekly, the Reconstructionist Magazine, and was the author of a book for young people on the life of Sir Moses Montefiore.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Rabbi Abraham D. Barras and by her second husband Mr. Martin Moskowitz.

She is survived by her sons Dr. David Barras and his wife Shelley, Daniel Barras; Jeannine Barras, and Dr. Joshua Barras and his wife Dr. Antoinette Risdon; Grandchildren Rabbi Jeremy Barras and his wife Jodi, Attorney Joel Barras and his wife Attorney Jacklynn, Elizabeth, Ruth and Leah; great grandchildren, Ella, Ethan and Lucy; brother Mel Namon, sister Tamar Rabb, Dr. Phyllis Frakt and her husband Alan Hershey, Jeannie and Warren Moskowitz.

A graveside funeral will be held at the Temple Israel Cemetery, Dennison Street, Swoyersville on Sunday, March 27, 2016 at 9:30 AM.

Shiva will be in the home of Dr. David and Shelley Barras 246 Butler St. Kingston, on Sunday, March 27, 2-4 and 7-9 PM; and on Monday, March 28, 2-4 and 7-9 PM.

In lieu of flowers charitable contributions in memory of Sylvia may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
