Steven Schonwetter, 55, of Baltimore, MD, a loving and devoted husband, brother and uncle, died Saturday, December 28, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer, in John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.
Son of the late Martin and Sarah Scherz Schonwetter, Steven was born in Wilkes-Barre and was a graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School. He continued his education at Carnegie Mellon University, with a Bachelors degree in Engineering and Business. He was past president of Fit Rite Headwear, Inc., a safety equipment manufacturing company, and most recent was site manager for Baltimore/Washington Airport ARINC. Steven was a past president of Congregation Ohav Zedek and Seligman J. Strauss Lodge of B'nai B'rith, founding member of Frei lox and Bagels Klezmer Band, active with the Jaycees Jr. Chamber of Commerce, the Diversity Institute at Misericordia University, Little Theatre, and was a former member of the JCC.
He was preceded in death by niece Melanie McDowell in 2006 and great nephew Joshua Good in 2002.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, the former Roopa Adhikari of Baltimore, MD; sisters, Roni Good of Kingston; Patricia Schonwetter of Noxen, father and mother in law, Mr. & Mrs. Adhikari, Calcutta, India; sister in laws, Deepa and Puja, Calcutta, India; nieces and nephews, Richard and Jeanette Good; Meghan, Liam and Adrienne Bonner, great nieces and nephews, Gavin and Juliana Good and Miles and Ruby Pickel.
Funeral services will be conducted, Sunday, December 29, 2013, at 2:00 pm, at the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, 348 S. River St. Wilkes-Barre with Rabbi Raphael Nemetsky officiating. Interment will be in Ohav Zedek Cemetery, Hanover Twp.
Shiva will be observed at the home of Roni Good, 44 N Atherton Ave, Kingston Monday-Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 and Friday 2-4.
