SHELDON MERTZ

Sheldon Joel Mertz, 83, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025 in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Harry and Ruth Kurlansky Mertz and was a graduate of Pittston High School.  Sheldon was employed in sales and enjoyed listening to music.  

Sheldon is survived by his son, Jacob Mertz of Wilkes-Barre; brother, Barry (Faye) and their children, Scott Mertz and Dr. Michelle (Julie) Mertz and their children, Micah Mertz and Maya Mertz;  his sister, Linda Mertz Cohen and her daughter Marley Tannenbaum (David) and their sons, Zachery and Ezra.  Sheldon was formerly married to Carolyn Mertz of Wilkes-Barre.

Graveside funeral service will be conducted on Monday, October 13, 2025 at 1:00 PM in West Pittston Jewish Cemetery, Wilkern St. West Pittston. 

Arrangements under the direction of the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, Inc. Wilkes-Barre.

Shiva will be observed at 288 S. Franklin St. Wilkes-Barre from 6 to 8 pm Thursday, Sunday and Monday.
