SALLY SAGENKAHN Obituary

Sally Lee Sagenkahn, 88, passed away on Wednesday, May 04, 2016 surrounded by her loving husband and her children, Samuel, Beth and Lee.

She was the daughter of the late Anna Goldberg and the late Benjamin Schonfeld and brother of the late Harold Schonfeld.

She is survived by her loving devoted husband of 63 years, Irwin Sagenkahn, and by her son, Samuel Sagenkahn and his partner John Vlacich, her daughter, Beth Warren and Scott Becker, and her daughter, Lee Brown and Brad King, and her brother, Morton Schonfeld.

She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren, Matthew (and Daynora Brown) and Melanie Brown, and triplets Brett (and Alyce DiLauro), Robert and Samuel Warren in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends of more than 65 years.

Sally Lee graduated from Mercy Hospital and received her RN in 1950. She continued her studies and received her BSN from College Misericordia. She was ahead of her time. And she loved doing private duty nursing and was totally committed to her patients and their well-being.

Sally Lee was a longtime supporter of many causes in the Wyoming Valley. Her vigorous volunteer activity, her professional nursing career and her interest in serving on nonprofit boards all have been part of a lifetime of volunteerism. She is said to have caused other community members to become involved in volunteer activities at Jewish Family Service, at her local synagogue, Temple Israel, at the local American Red Cross blood bank and at the Jewish Community Center of Wyoming Valley's blood-pressure screening. She was also involved with the Visiting Nurse Association. She also headed and served on the Chevra Kadisha in Wyoming Valley.

She volunteered for over 50 years with the American Red Cross. She also has volunteered for the Jewish Family Service Kosher Home Delivered Meals Program for 20 continuous years. As a Jewish Family Service board member, Sally Lee has volunteered for fund-raising, participated actively in the new strategic plan and suggested new ways to deliver services.

Sally Lee loved football, you could hear her cheering from across the street, and was a great supporter of Penn State football and Penn State University. She also loved the Oakland Raiders since their inception more than 50 years ago.
