SALLY CONNOR

Sally Connor, 92, of Pittston, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 30, 2022.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Morris and Hannah Shindel Cohen. Sally was a graduate of Meyers High School and graduated Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania, where she was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa society. 

Those who knew Sally would say that she was a woman of grace, optimism, intelligence, and that she had a giving heart and loving, sweet spirit. She always had a smile on her face, and wanted everyone to be happy. “Good morning sunshine” was often a greeting she used to say hello. 

To her children and grandchildren, she was the most devoted and loving mother/grandmother who always encouraged them to do their best, do the right thing, and value education…and dessert was always served at Grandma’s house!

Sally was an avid bridge player and a member of multiple bridge clubs for many years. Her favorite hobbies included reading, knitting, spending time with her many friends, and contributing to numerous non profit organizations throughout Northeast Pennsylvania.

She was well traveled, having been to Israel, Italy, United Kingdom, Scotland, and numerous trips to the Caribbean and throughout the United States.

Her greatest contribution to the world was her positivity and devotion to her Jewish faith, which she has passed on to her children and grandchildren.

She was an Administrator at Temple Israel Synagogue for 25 years, and was devoted to her duties to the Temple and it’s congregation. In addition to these duties, Sally was a braille translator and worked as a librarian at Wilkes University.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ralph Connor and brother, attorney Jerome Cohen.

She is survived by her son, Edward Connor (Celia), daughter, Trudy Doss (Otis); grandchildren, Raina Vaughan (Preston), Major Michael Doss (Janis), Gary Doss, Rebecca Doss; great grandchildren, Olina Doss, Lincoln and Dilynn Vaughan.

Funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at 10:00 am from the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, Inc. 348 S. River Street, Wilkes-Barre, with Rabbi Larry Kaplan and Cantor Ahron Abraham officiating. Interment will follow in Agudath Achim Cemetery, West Pittston.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the loving, warm staff at Wesley Village and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their care.

Shiva will be observed at the Woodlands Inn and Resort, on Wednesday from 6 to 8 pm and on Thursday, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.
