RUTH LEVEY Obituary

Ruth Levey, 98, a resident of the Jewish Home, Scranton, formerly of Kingston, died Saturday evening, June 25, 2016 in Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Ida Levine Zatcoff and was a graduate of GAR High School. Ruth founded Luzerne County Association for Retarded Children, (ARC) which was the first Association in America for Retarded Children. She was a former member of Temple Israel, a member of the former Temple Bnai Jacob and United Orthodox and a member of other civic and religious organizations. She was an avid bridge player and volunteered with many organizations.

Ruth was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband, Leo Levey, son, Joel and siblings, Joseph, Samuel and Abe Zatcoff and sisters Rose Rudolph and Gussie Wendum.

She is survived by son, Mark Levey, Chicago, IL; daughter, Cheryl Levey, Edwardsville; 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, June 28, 2016, in Bnai Jacob Cemetery, Darling Street, Wilkes-Barre with Rabbi Dovid Kaplan.
