Ruth A. Sten, 94, of Kingston, died Thursday morning, December 17, 2015, in Celtic Hospice, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Eva Sladowitz Domowitz and was a member of Temple Israel, the JCA, lead Yiddish Study Group at the JCA and sang in the Temple Israel Choir. Ruth worked as Rosie the Riveter during World War II and loved knitting, singing, cooking and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Sten; son, Howard Sten; daughters, Barbara Sten Whalen and Eileen Sten and siblings, Ida, Julie, Irving, Marion and Marge.
She is survived by daughter-in-law, Virginia Sten of East Stroudsburg, grandchildren, Rachel Sten and her husband Scott Rumble, Rutledge, PA; David Sten and his wife, Kaitlin Sten of San Diego, CA; Jared Whalen of Elizabethtown, NY; Chelsea Whalen, great grandchildren Nevaeh, Tavyian, Chloe, Owen and Emily and many friends.
Funeral service will be held Friday, December 18, 2015 at 1:30 pm, at the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, Inc., 348 S. River Street, Wilkes-Barre. Rabbi Larry Kaplan and Cantor Ahron Abraham will officiate. Interment will be Temple Israel Cemetery, Swoyersville.
Visitation will be observed at 146 S. Dawes Ave, Kingston, Sunday, December 20, 2015 from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm.
