ROBERT FORTINSKY Obituary

Robert A. (Bob) Fortinsky ,87, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away early Thursday morning December 27,2013.

A resident of Kingston he was the son of the late Dora Popky Fortinsky and the late Jacob Fortinsky. He graduated from E.L. Meyers high School and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Penn State University. Upon graduation from college he enlisted in the Army where he served as a second lieutenant. He founded Fortune Fabrics in 1949 becoming a third generation weaver, and this was his passion until the day he died He was widely regarded as a business visionary and others sought him out; whether it was for his candid advice or just an encouraging word. He had a zest for life and a genuine need to help others. He served on countless boards; his philanthropy was unmatched and often anonymous.

He was an avid golfer and piano player, playing his beloved piano daily entertaining his great grandchildren. A Penn State fan, who never missed a home game, and reveled in sharing the game with friends and family.
He was past president of Temple Israel, the JCC as well as numerous other organizations.

He was preceded in death by his brother Harold.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley Rabinowitz Fortinsky, daughters, Judy Null and husband Jeffery; Jill Schwartz and Dave
Brown; sister Jeanne Fainberg; brother Charles Fortinsky; 7 grandchildren Michael, Haley, her husband Joe; Greg, his wife Samantha; Kerry, her husband George; Hal, his wife Sarah; Eric, his wife Megan; Kady and 3 great-grandchildren, Bria, Jada and Ella.

Funeral will be At Temple Israel on Friday December 28, 2012. Shiva will be held at the home of Jill Schwartz, 857 Nandy Drive Kingston, Saturday 6 - 8 , Sunday through Wednesday 2-4 and 6 -8.

The family would like to thank Bob's wonderful caretakers and his long time secretary Barbara Shadie.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Association for the Blind, Alzheimer's Association or charity of the donors choice.
