Riva Kernis Lubin Obituary
In Loving Memory of Riva Kernis Lubin
September 10, 1936 – October 24, 2025
Riva Kernis Lubin, of Boynton Beach, FL, a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully, surrounded by both her daughters, at the age of 89, on Friday evening, October 24, 2025.
Born in Weissport, PA, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Anna Kernis; a graduate of Lehighton High School, and earned her bachelor’s degree in teaching from Penn State University. Riva was a member of Temple Israel Synagogue, Hadassah, the Jewish Community Center of Wilkes-Barre, and other civic and religious organizations.
In addition to her parents and brother, Jerry, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Fehr, and second husband, Attorney Solomon Lubin.
Riva was smart as a whip and very competitive, qualities that shone through in her love for Tennis and Bridge. Her dedication earned her the title of ‘Life Master in Bridge’. When she wasn’t on the court or at the bridge table, she enjoyed cooking and spending time with family and friends. She had a passion for trying new things and traveling. From South Africa to Alaska, Riva made travel a priority, embracing all and enjoying life to the fullest. But most of all, she loved her family and grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Fran Lubin of Delray Beach, FL, and Marla Mygatt and her husband, Craig, of Coral Springs, FL; grandchildren, Taylor Sheridan, Ryan Mygatt, and Braden Mygatt; great-granddaughter, Katherine Sheridan; and sibling, Sheila Mager; and nieces and nephews.
In honoring Riva’s memory, donations can be made to Hadassah, Temple Israel of Wilkes-Barre, or a charity of your choice. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all friends and loved ones for their support and condolences during this difficult time.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, 348 S. River St, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702, at 1:00 PM, followed by a Graveside Service at Temple Israel Cemetery, 212 Dennison St., Swoyersville. There will be a reception for friends and family to follow.
Riva Kernis Lubin will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a remarkable woman who touched the hearts of many. May her memory be a blessing.
