Richard D. Spath, 86, of Riverdale, NY, died Monday, February 24, 2014, in Calvery Hospital, Bronx, following a long illness.
Born in Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late John J. and Margaret Schwartz Spath and was a graduate of Erasmus Hall High School, Brooklyn and attended Georgia Tech. Richard served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a pioneer in the electrical and lighting industries. He was a former member of Temple B'nai B'rith, Kingston; a member of Temple Israel, Wilkes-Barre and other civic and religious organizations. Mr. Spath was a Sports Enthusiast and a great Tennis Player.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Constance.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, the former Renee Turtletaub; Sons, John and Greg (Lois), grandsons, Daniel and David (Kim), granddaughter, Emma, great grandchildren, Oliver, Summer and Cole.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am, Thursday, February 27, 2014, at the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, Inc., 348 S. River Street, Wilkes-Barre, with Rabbi Larry Kaplan and Cantor Ahron Abraham officiating.
Interment will follow in Temple Israel Cemetery,Swoyersville.
Shiva will be observed in New York.
