Murray Fischer, 86, Plantation, FL, died Friday, August 25, 2017 in Hollywood, FL.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Nathan and Gertrude Weisberger Fischer and was a graduate of Edwardsville High School and attended Wilkes College. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and also was very proud to have served on the honor guard. He was a fixture at his family's business, Fischer Brothers, behind the meat counter, always schmoozing with the customers. He owned and operated Murray's Place and upon moving to Florida, he worked at Doris' Market until he retired.
Murray was a past president of his condo board of directors, a former member of Congregation Ohav Zedek, , JWV and JCC and other civic and religious organizations. In his youth, he was an avid bowler at the JCC and in the summer months, he could be found at his families cottage at Harveys Lake, where he loved to fish.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his siblings, Donald Fischer, Harriet Lis and Malka Kaufer.
He is survived by his children, Cindy Herbst (Bernard) State College; Brian Fischer (Darlene), Wilkes-Barre; Brett Fischer (Michelle) Plantation, FL; Tammy Finsterbusch, Folsom, PA; Craig Fischer (Raquel) Hollywood, FL; 9 grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at 11:00 am at the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, Inc. 348 S. River St. Wilkes-Barre. Interment will follow in Ohav Zedek Cemetery, 500 Chestnut St. Hanvoer Twp.
Shiva will be observed at the Woodlands Inn and Resort, Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to charity of donor's choice.
