Marvin Smith, 88, of Laflin, died at home, Friday, April 7, 2017, with family by his side.
Born in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Max and Vera Horwitz Smith and was a graduate of Meyers High School, Bucknell Jr. College and Wilkes College. Marvin served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army and was a manager for Prestige Footwear and Carter Footwear. He was a member of Temple Israel Synagogue, the Jewish Community Center and other civic and religious organizations.
Marvin was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his first wife, Marjorie Burstein Smith.
He is survived by his wife, the former Ann Davis; daughters, Harriet Rabinowitz and her husband, Philip, Old Bridge, NJ; Amy Smith, Allentown; son, David A. Volkman and his wife Sharon, Granite Springs, NY; 4 grandsons, Mark Rabinowitz and his wife Kara, Joshua Rabinowitz and his wife Rachel, Evan and Noah Volkman; great grandson Dylan Rabinowitz; brother, Carl Smith, Rockville, MD and loving nieces.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at 12:00 noon at the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, Inc. 348 S. River St. Wilkes-Barre, with Rabbi Larry Kaplan and Cantor Ahron Abraham officiating.
Interment will follow in Temple Israel Cemetery, Swoyersville.
Shiva will be observed at the family home, 126 Cedarwood Drive, Laflin, Sunday, April 9, 2017 from 4-6 pm and from 7-9 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to Temple Israel, 236 S. River St., Wilkes-Barre or charity of donor's choice.
