Margaret Weisberger, 100, of Jewish Home, Scranton, formerly of Pittston and NYC, died Thursday, August 15, 2013, in Regional Hospital, Scranton.
Born in Czechoslovakia, she was the daughter of the late Marcus and Hannah Lebowitz Weisberger and was a graduate of Pittston High School. Margaret was employed as a secretary for the United Jewish Appeal and was a member of the former Agudath Achim Synagogue and member in perpetuity of Temple Israel, Wilkes-Barre. Margaret and her husband belonged to a variety to civic and religious organizations in New York, to which they were very charitable.
She was preceded in death by husband, Joseph Shields, of NYC and siblings, Morris, Simon and William Weisberger.
She is survived by siblings, Molly Cohen, Wilkes-Barre; Edith Shaw, Kansas City, MO; Dr. Eugene Weisberger, Greensboro, NC and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral service will be 1:30 pm, Monday, August 19, 2013 in Agudath Achim Cemetery, West Pittston. Rabbi Larry Kaplan will officiate.
There will be no local shiva.
