Louis Pezzner, 89, of Ashley, died Saturday morning, June 25, 2016, in the Tiffany Court Assisted Living, Kingston, where his great nieces and nephews would visit and entertain him.
Born in Ashley, he was a loving and devoted son to Benjamin and Julia Neiman Pezzner to whom he gave wonderful and extraordinary care. He graduated from Ashley High School, then entered the United States Navy, serving in World War II. Upon returning to the Valley, he briefly worked for the family business, Pezzner Brothers, Inc., in the meat industry, and in the Nanticoke Beef House. He graduated from Bucknell (Wilkes College) with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting and then began his accounting career working for the IRS. He would work in various offices for the IRS and travel wherever he was needed. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 673, Ashley, and a Past Commander. Mr. Pezzner was a member of Congregation Ohav Zedek, Wilkes-Barre, where he attended morning Minyan, up until becoming ill. His niece, Marsha Lebenson, and her husband, Larry, made him a very special part of their family. For many years he celebrated all the holidays and family events with them. As his health declined, they continued to care for him in a special, loving way.
Louis was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his brothers, Calvin and Samuel Pezzner.
He is survived by his sister, Vitie Petill and her husband, Nat, Tucson, AZ, and his brother, Harold Pezzner, and his wife, Nan, Wilmington, Del.
Uncle Laby, as he was known affectionately by his 12 nieces and nephews, is also survived by: Marsha and Larry Lebenson, Susan and Bobby Goldstein, Barry and Abby Pezzner, Amy and Jeff Zelka, Laurie and Steve Levin, Martin and Candi Pezzner, Gary and Laurie Petill, Cindy Petill, Scott Petill, Ashley and Jodi Pezzner, Dara and Dave Taylor, and Julie Pezzner.
He is also survived by many loving great and great-great nieces and nephews, many of whom he was very close with. They loved him for his "Pezzner" sense of humor and their lives have been impacted tremendously by him.
The family thanks the staffs of Tiffany Court Assisted Living and Hospice of the Sacred Heart, as well as Dr. Greenwald, Dr. Rittenberg, Dr. Schulman and Dr. Czwalina for the exceptional kindness and compassion they extended to Louis.
