LILLIAN GOLDSTEIN Obituary

Lillian Weissberger Goldstein, of Duryea, a few months shy of her 95th birthday, died Monday morning, March 24, 2014, in the arms of her loving daughter, Deborah, who never left her side.

Born in Taylor, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Lebowitz Weissberger and was a graduate of Taylor High School, Class of 1937, where she achieved high honors and served as class historian. She was one of the first organizers of the Taylor Class of 1937 Reunion Committee. Lillian ran a family business with her husband for many years, and worked for 30 years as a salesperson for Topps Chewing Gun and several retail stores. She was a member of the Jewish Home of Northeastern PA, the Jewish Home Ladies Auxiliary, Bichor Cholem Synagogue and several other civic and religious organizations.


Lillian was preceded in death by her husband Samuel Goldstein, brother, Myer Weissberger, sisters, Esther Weissberger and Hannah Weissberger.

She is survived by her son, Rabbi Emmanuel J. Goldstein and his wife, Francine, Manhattan Beach, CA; daughters, Judith Damiano, Gouldsboro; Saundra Fine, Kingston, Deborah Goldstein, at home; 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, brother, Albert Weissberger, Wilkes-Barre; sister, Ruth Bayarsky, Hazleton, cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous friends.

Funeral service will be conducted, Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at 11:30 am at the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, Inc. 348 S. River Street, Wilkes-Barre, with Rabbi Yehoshua Michael Goldstein and Cantor Ahron Abraham officiating.

Interment will be in the Duryea section of the West Pittston Jewish Cemetery.

Shiva will be observed at 100 N. Dawes Ave., Kingston, 7-9 Tuesday; 2-4 and 7-9 Wednesday through Thursday; 2-4 Friday and 2-4 and 7-9 Sunday.
