Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Mary Frank Kirshner. She was a graduate of Plains High School, where Lila met the love of her life, Daniel Kanter, and attended Penn State.

Lila was a member of Ohav Zedek, serving for many years as an officer and Board member and was Treasurer of its Sisterhood. She was also a member of Hadassah; the Jewish Community Center and other civic and religious organizations. In 2009, Lila was honored with presentation of the Woman of Valor Award from the Ohav Zedek Sisterhood in recognition of devoted service and commitment to the synagogue and its Sisterhood.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 73 years, Daniel Kanter; son Jack David Kanter; brothers Sidney, Leonard and Norman Kirshner.

Lila worked side-by-side with Dan in two businesses, Weiss’ Economy Store in Plains and Kanter’s Fruit Baskets. She will be remembered for her kindness and generosity by all who knew her.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Marcia (George) Miller of Hagerstown, MD, Barbara (Michael) Peisner of Portland, Maine, Alan (Sharon) Kanter of Las Vegas, NV; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and friends.
