Leiba Betty Brown, 100, of Manhattan, passed away Wednesday February 12, 2014 in Beth Israel Hospital, NYC.
Born October 1, 1913 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Golda (Jacobowitz) Brown and was a 1934 graduate of Beth Israel's School of Nursing. Leiba, an RN, served there as a private duty nurse, caring for such notables as pianist Artur Rubenstein, actress Gina Lollobrigida and fighter Max Baer. After a brief stint in California caring for the troops during WWII, she returned to Beth Israel, where she ran both the Eye Clinic and the OB-GYN Clinic, before retiring at age 70. She was an active member of Beth Israel's Alumni Association.
She was preceded in death by brothers Samuel, David, Benjamin, and a sister, Mary.
She is survived by five nieces and two nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday February 20, at the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, 348 S. River St., Wilkes-Barre, PA.
Interment will follow in the Anshe Sfard Cemetery, Dallas.
