Jerome Shaiman, 91, of Riverdale, NY, died on Tuesday, February 23.
He is survived by his loving wife Doris Lee; daughter Fran Lesser and her husband Steven, Columbus, OH; daughter Susan Kimelman and her husband Mikael, Pittsburgh, PA; son Joel and his wife Harriet, New York, NY; daughter Sara, Philadelphia; and grandchildren Bethany Lesser (Anthony Kusich); Natalie Lesser (Jordan Segall), William Lesser, David and Ben Kimelman; and Aaron, Sydney and Benjamin Shaiman.
He was preceded in death by his brother Nathan Shaiman and his sister Lillian Sugarman.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, Jerry was the son of the late Jacob and Sadie Shaiman. A graduate of GAR Memorial High School, he served in the US Army during World War II throughout the Pacific. Upon his return home, he married his love Doris Lee, and together they raised four kids. He was a salesman at Union Paper and Supply for many years, with a short stint at Master Chemical. A long-time member of Congregation Ohav Zedek, he and Doris moved to Riverdale, NY four years ago.
Jerry was an avid bowler, dancer, sports fan, and Wilkes-Barre advocate. He was so proud of all of his children and grandchildren, and he was loved by his many friends (of all ages!) and customers.
Services will be in NYC Thursday morning.
Jerry's graveside funeral will be on Thursday, February 25 in the West Pittston Jewish Cemetery , 22 Wilkern Street, West Pittston.
Shiva will be observed in Wilkes-Barre on Thursday from 4 - 8 pm at The Woodlands Inn and Resort.
May Jerome Shaiman's memory be a blessing for his family and for all Israel.
