Jean K. Nelligan, 74, of Harveys Lake, died in the Geisinger Medical Center, Plains Township as the result of a serious automobile accident.
Born in Clermont, FL, she was the daughter of the late Simon Kessler and Edythe Brinen Kessler of Tampa, Florida. She was a graduate of Plant High School, Tampa, FL and was a member of Temple B'nai B'rith, Kingston, Harvey's Lake Womans Club and other civic and religious organizations. She was a very unselfish and generous person, who was known fondly as "Mrs. Rum Cake," due to the thousands of Rum cakes she had baked.
In addition to her mother, Jean is survived by her loving husband, former United States Representative for the 11th Congressional District of Pennsylvania, James L. Nelligan; son, James C. Nelligan and his wife Joanne, Dallas; two grandchildren, Ryan and Rachel Nelligan; brother, Martin Kessler of Tampa, Florida; sister, Beverly Kessler Fruit and her husband, Melvyn, of Jacksonville, Florida; niece and nephew, Lori A. Fruit and Andrew J. Fruit his wife Julie, great nephews, Michael I. Fruit and Samuel Fruit.
Funeral will be held, at 1:00 PM, Monday, February 24, 2014, at the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, Inc. 348 S. River Street, Wilkes-Barre, with Rabbi Roger Lerner officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 12:30 until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to charity of donor's choice.
