HERBERT LEVY Obituary

Herbert Levy, 85, formerly of Kingston, died Tuesday, August 26 surrounded by family in Columbus, Ohio.

A longtime resident of Kingston, he was Reuben and Leah Levy's youngest child. Schools attended include Wyoming Seminary and Bucknell University.

He called Temple Israel home and raised his four children there and within Temple B'nai Brith. You might remember Herb from the Copy Cat Fast Printing Shop, on North Main Street, which he operated until the mid 90's. In addition to Copy Cat, he also ran Tall Timbers, a boy's camp in Casco, Maine, worked at Blue Ribbon Bakery- the family business, and was a salesman for Baker's coconut.
Herb was known for his daily New York Times, his sense of humor, bad puns and love of chocolate ice cream and word puzzles. Even as he aged, he was able to play on words to the groans of his family and amusement of his friends. A fiercely independent soul, he delighted in the fact that he was a (great) grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Charlotte Rosenberg Levy, sister Lois Levy Rosensweig, two sons, Henry and Adam and his granddaughter, Sarah Krause.

He is survived by his son Robert of Shippenville, PA, daughter Betsey and son-in-law John Krause of Westerville, Ohio, Clem Richard (NY,NY), grandchildren Anna Krause (Gettysburg, PA) and Sam & Melissa Levy (Monroeville, PA), great granddaughter Hannah, brother and sister in law Richard and Iris Levy (Dallas), sister in law Sherry Wasserstrom Rosenberg (Wheeling, WV) and many loving nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the caring staff at New Albany Gardens where Herb lived for over 3 years. They were more like friends than staff members to Herb. Thank you also to Drs.Thomas Dorsey and Patrick Dineen for compassionate sensible care. Love to those in the Sem community who define friendship: Jane, Harry, Andy and Marsha, among others. Thank you Rabbi Misha Zinkow of Temple Israel, Columbus, Ohio who continually delighted Herb by enthusiastically greeting him by name on Friday nights. A special thank you to Rabbi Sharon Mars, whom Herb considered a friend; your presence made him look forward to every tomorrow.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 31 at 2:00 at Temple Israel Cemetery, Swoyersville with Rabbi Larry Kaplan, Herb's nephew Rabbi Charlie Popky and Herb's godson Cantor Donn Rosensweig officiating.

Shiva and visitation will be Sunday night from 7-9 at Herb and Charlotte's last Kingston residence at 281 N. Sprague Avenue.

In lieu of flowers, please direct any memorial contributions to Wyoming Seminary or to an organization of your choice.
