Harold S. Spitz, of Kingston, died Saturday, December 21, 2013, in Commonwealth Hospice, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Maurice and Celia Levy Spitz and was a graduate of Scranton Central High School. Harold served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was the recipient of the National Defense Service medal.
Prior to retirement, he was employed as a Manager in the Shoe Department of KMart and did electronics for the government. Mr. Spitz was a member of the former Anshe Emes Synagogue, a member of the former United Orthodox Synagogue, a member of Congregation Ohav Zedek, the Jewish War Veterans Post 212, the Jewish Community Center, past president of its men's club and a member of other civic and religious organizations.
He was preceded by brother, Steven Spitz and sister Rosland Jerome.
He is survived by his wife, the former Shirley Leibman; son, Michael A., Kingston, uncle, Maynard Spitz, niece and nephew, Eileen and Jerry Leibman.
Funeral service wil be conducted, Monday, December 23, 2013, at 1:00 pm at the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, Inc. 348 S. River St., Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in Anshe Emes Cemetery, Plains. Rabbi Raphael Nemetsky and Rabbi Zvi Perlman will officiate.
Family would like to thank Dr. Engel and his wife, Tammy; Dr. Rothchild and staff at the Renal Consultants and everyone who took care of him at Commonwealth Hospice for the excellent loving care given Harold.
Shiva will be observed at 321 Lathrop Street, Kingston, 7-9 Monday, 2-4 and 7-9 Tuesday and Wednesday.
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to charity of donors choice.
