GLADYS WEISBERGER Obituary

Gladys Crames Weisberger, 98, of Jenkintown, PA, died at home on June 8, 2021.

 

Born in the Bronx, NY in 1922, she was the daughter of the late Atty. Maxwell L. and Evelyn Schwartz Crames. Gladys graduated from High School in 1938 and Hunter College with a BA degree majoring in sociology and minoring in education. After graduation, she worked for the Chemical Warfare Service of the War Department from 1942 to 1946. In 1946, she married Dr. Daniel F. Weisberger, who retired from the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant junior grade, and resumed his podiatry practice in Pittston, PA.

 

Gladys and her family lived in West Pittston for 32 years until they moved to Kingston in 1986. She taught at the United Hebrew Institute from 1961 to 1966, then at Wyoming Area Elementary School for 18 years. She was a member of the NEA and PSEA-R. She served as president of the Temple Agudath Achim's Sisterhood in Pittston. She was a board member and secretary of Family Service Association of NEPA  in Wilkes-Barre and served as board member to the Friends of FSA-NEPA and to Children and Youth. As a board member and recording secretary, she was involved with Temple Israel, Sisterhood of Temple Israel, and Wilkes-Barre Branch of the Jewish Home. After retirement, Gladys volunteered as a teacher's aide in the Wilkes-Barre and Kingston Schools and she delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. 

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Dr. Daniel F. Weisberger; sister, Bernice C. Simon and brother, Atty. Charles F. Crames.

 

She is survived by daughters, Judy (Michael) Leopold and Terry (Jon) Adams; grandchildren Janet (Jeffrey) Max, David  (Regina) Leopold, Michael and Ben Adams; great grandchildren Celia and Dylan Max, Petra and Colby Leopold.

 

Graveside funeral service was held on Thursday, June 10, 2021 in Agudath Achim Cemetery, West Pittston with Rabbi Larry Kaplan and Cantor Aaron Abraham officiating. 

 

Arrangements by Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, Inc. 348 S. River St. Wilkes-Barre.
