Gertrude Turoff Zachar Brown, 88, of Scranton, formerly of Wilkes-Barre and Florida, died Saturday morning, February 8, 2014, in the Jewish Home of Northeastern PA.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late David and Rose Stern Turoff and was a graduate of GAR High School. Prior to retiring, she was a bookkeeper for various businesses. Gertrude was a member of Temple Israel Synagogue, the Jewish Community Center and other civic and religious organizations.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Michael Zachar, second husband, Manny Brown and sister Bernice Popkin.
Gertrude is survived by her sons, Richard Zachar and his wife, Cathy, Kingston; Joel Zachar and his wife, Eileen, Richmond, VA; 4 grandchildren, Michele Sirkin and her husband, Jeffrey, Deborah Zachar and her fiancee, Andrew, Michael Zachar and his wife, Lacey; Brittany Zachar and two nephews.
Funeral service will be conducted, Monday, February 10, 2014, at 11:00 am, from the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, Inc. 348 S. River Street, Wilkes-Barre, with Rabbi Larry Kaplan officiating. Interment will follow in Temple Israel Cemetery, Swoyersville.
Shiva will be observed, 7-9 pm Monday and 2-4 and 7-9 pm Tuesday and Wednesday, at 214 Butler Street, Kingston.
