Esther B. Jacobs, of Gateway Apartments, Edwardsville, passed away peacefully, Thursday, October 31, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.
Born, August 13, 1913, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Max and Fanny Brown. Esther was educated in Scranton Schools, and was active with her husband Louis Jacobs in his plumbing business. She moved to Las Vegas in 1976 and was employed as class coordinator at Las Vegas Municipal Court Traffic School. She returned to Wilkes-Barre in 1998.
She was a life member of Ohav Zedek Synagogue, a member of Temple B'nai B'rith, and member and past treasurer of the Jewish War Veterans Auxiliary #212.
Esther volunteered for the American Red Cross as a coordinator of blood drives and a member of its counsil. She also volunteered at Mercy and General Hospital.
Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Louis in 1971, sisters, Ann Mittleman, Mary Brown, Betty Herman and her brother, Martin Brown.
She is survived by her son, Harvey Jacobs and his wife, Linda, Dallas; granddaughter, Kelly and her husband Nicholas, and her great-grandson, Avery Steidl, Syracuse, NY; grandson Daniel Jacobs, Salt Lake City; nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
The family would like to give special thanks to Home Sweet Home Personal Care, owner Lucy Drapiewski, for her hands-on care, her assistant Pat and the other fantastic personal care givers, particularly, Joan, Lynn, Jean, Sheila, Faye, Adrienne, her nurse Karen, and all others. We are also grateful to Art and everyone else at Patient Care for their dedication to her well-being. We also want to thank her primary physician Dr. Scott and secretary Joy. Everyone showed her love and compassion and we wish to express our heart-felt thanks.
Funeral services will be held, Sunday, November 3, 2013, at 11:00 am, at the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, 348 S. River St., Wilkes-Barre with Rabbi Roger Lerner officiating. Interment will be in Ohav Zedek Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre, with Rabbi Nemetsky officiating.
Shiva will be observed at Gateway Apartments, 735 A Deberly Drive, Edwardsville, Sunday November 3 from 7 pm to 9 pm, Monday November 4th from 2 pm to 4 pm, and 7 pm to 9 pm, and Tuesday, November 5th from 7pm to 9pm.
In lieu of flowers and food, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, Temple B'nai B'rith, or a charity of your choice.
