Elkin L. Kaplan, 82, of Kingston, died Sunday morning, July 31, 2016 in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Bennet and Mollie (Pearlstein) Kaplan, was a graduate of Central High School in Philadelphia and received his Bachelor's degree from Temple University. Mr. Kaplan served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict stationed in Greenland and Baffin Island, Canada, and prior to retiring, worked as a computer systems analyst. He was a longtime member of the Oxford Circle Jewish Community Center in northeast Philadelphia, and was past president of its Men's Club. He has been a devoted member of Temple Israel of Wilkes-Barre, the Jewish Community Center, its Men's Club and other civic and religious organizations.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Phyllis Gold.
Elkin is survived by sons, Dr. Howard Kaplan and his wife, Gail, Drexel Hill; Rabbi Larry Kaplan and his wife, Gerri, Kingston; Michael Kaplan and his wife, Jesse, Ohio; 13 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter and many foster grandchildren.
Funeral service will be conducted, Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at 12:00 noon at the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, Inc. 348 S. River Street, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in Temple Israel Cemetery, Swoyersville.
Shiva will be observed at the home of Rabbi Larry and Gerri Kaplan in Kingston, Tuesday 7-9; Wednesday and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9, and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rabbi's Discretionary Fund, 236 S. River St Wilkes-Barre PA 18702.
