Eleanor Cohen, 89, aka Ethel Sarah Caplan, of Kingston, died at home, Sunday, March 27, 2016.
Born in Ashley, she was the daughter of the late Max and Celia Swetlitz Caplan was a graduate of Ashley High School and, along with her husband, owned and operated Millers Jewelry and Gifts, South Main St., Wilkes-Barre. Eleanor was a former member of the Jewish Community Center; an eternal lite member of Temple Israel Synagogue and other civic and religious organizations.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Lenard Cohen, grandson, Max Cohen, daughter in law, Kathy Williams Cohen, siblings, Ruth Berman, Elizabeth Newsbaum, Aaron Caplan, Morris Caplan and Shirley Weiss.
She is survived by sons, Gary Cohen, Philadelphia; Ronald Cohen and his wife, Lisa, Philadelphia; 3 grandchildren, Leah Cohen Bradley and her husband, Tacuma, Judd and Rebecca Cohen; siblings, Miriam Glasman and Irving Caplan.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at 10:30 am, in the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, Inc. 348 S. River St. Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in Temple Israel Cemetery, Swoyersville with Rabbi Larry Kaplan and Cantor Ahron Abraham officiating.
Shiva will be observed at 36 N. Atherton Ave. Kingston, Wednesday from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm; 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm Thursday and 2-4 pm on Friday.
