Dr. Martin Saltzman Obituary

Dr. Martin Saltzman of New Hartford (1933-2015)

Martin was born in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Charles and Rose (Liebertritt) Saltzman. He graduated from Brooklyn College of Pharmacy and Dalhousie University School of Medicine. While living in New Hartford he was employed as a physician at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Marcy Psychiatric Center, and Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center.

Marty is survived by his loving daughters, Jody Paige Saltzman (San Diego, CA), her husband, Jeff Cox, and children, Sierra Drew Gomez-Saltzman and Sage Ross Michaels; and Wendy Saltzman (Riverside, CA), her husband, Theodore Garland, Jr., and their children, Theodore Garland, III and Jaden Lee Garland. Marty is also survived by his brother, Hank Saltzman (New York City); sister, Bernice Rabin (Chevy Chase, MD); former wife, Janice Saltzman (Marana, AZ), and Janice's daughters (Sylvia Adkins, Elizabeth Cardarelli), granddaughter (Phylisha Adkins), and great-grandson (Janek Isaiah Adkins); and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Marty was a vibrant, vivacious man whose passions included dancing, reading, learning, socializing, and telling jokes. He took great joy in his career as a physician and cared deeply about helping people in both his personal and professional lives. Marty appreciated nature and enjoyed outdoor activities. He enthusiastically followed current events and was an ardent supporter of Israel. He was devoted to his family and his many cherished friends. Marty's love of life and all it had to offer was an inspiration. He will be deeply missed.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 26th at the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, Inc. 348 S. River Street, Wilkes-Barre with Rabbi David Kaplan officiating.

Interment will be in Ohav Zedek Cemetery, Hanover Township, Pennsylvania.

Shiva will observed at The Woodlands Inn and Resort Tuesday from 3 to 6 pm.

A celebration of Marty's life will be held at 2:00 Sunday, May 24, 2015 at the Ramada Inn, 141 New Hartford Street, New Hartford. Refreshments will be served.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America, the Rescue Mission of Utica, or the American Red Magen David for Israel.
