DR. ISADORE (IRVING) BERGER

Dr. Isadore Berger (Irving), of Kingston, died Monday, May 2, 2016 at home, with family by his side.

Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Jake and Mirel Bodomsky Berger and was a graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School, 1937. He attended Brooklyn College in the evenings before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942 and served during World War II. He graduated from Pennsylvania College of Optometry, where he met Phyllis Eichler. They were married for 63 years. They settled in Dallas in 1955 and stayed there for 45 years before moving to Kingston in 1999.

The Drs. Berger practiced Optometry in Hazelton. Dr. Berger later practiced in his offices in Shickshinny, Dallas and Freeland. He was a Life Member of the Pennsylvania Optometric Society. He was a member of Temple Israel Synagogue, the Jewish Community Center, and its Men's Club. He was a past president of the Dallas Lions Club. He enjoyed Odyssey Fitness until he was ninety years old.

He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by wife, Dr. Phyllis Eichler Berger and sister, Esther Greenbaum.

Isadore is survived by his daughters, Alisa Cotter (Robert), Philadelphia; Judith Rose Berger (Robin Singer), Atlanta, GA; son, Jay Berger (Maureen Ivy), Oakland, CA; grandchildren, Jack Cotter, Emma Berger-Singer, Leah Eve Berger-Singer, nieces and nephews; dear friends Mary, Effie, Elizabeth and Mary Ann.

Funeral service will be Thursday, May 5, 2016, at 11:00 am at the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, Inc. 348 S. River Street, Wilkes-Barre, with Rabbi Larry Kaplan and Cantor Aaron Abraham officiating.

Interment will follow in Temple Israel Cemetery, Swoyersville.

Family welcomes everyone to stop by while the family is sitting Shiva, Thursday from 7 pm to 9 pm and Friday from 3 pm to 6 pm at 445 N. Gates Ave. Kingston, Apt 2.
