Doris Brown, 89, of Kingston, Harvey’s Lake and Wesley Village, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2023 with family by her side.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Eli and Hannah Gordon and was a graduate of Scranton High School and Penn State University. Doris was a member of Congregation Ohav Zedek; Hadassah; the Jewish Community Center; member and past president of the National Council of Jewish Women and many other civic and religious organizations. Prior to retirement, Doris worked for Main Street Gallery, and M.D. Brown Company. One of her joys was hand-weaving traditional prayer shawls for her family. Doris loved to entertain and host holiday celebrations for family and friends. Her coconut kiss cookies were legendary.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Norman and Kenny Gordon.
Loving family members include her husband, Nathan Brown; daughters, Ellen Brown Goldfarb (Stewart), Leslie Brown (David Aronoff); son, Morey Brown; grandchildren, Alex Goldfarb (Kelsi), Brett Goldfarb, Justine Aronoff, Hilary Aronoff, Mitchell Aronoff, Talia Brown; two great grandchildren, Brycen Goldfarb and Kinsley Goldfarb; sister-in-law Harriet Gordon and many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, Inc. 348 S. River Street, Wilkes-Barre with Rabbi Dovid Kaplan officiating. Interment will follow in the West Pittston Jewish Cemetery, West Pittston.
Shiva will be observed at the home of Ronne and Joel Zitofsky 44 South River Street Wilkes Barre on Wednesday January 18, 2023 from 7 to 9pm and Thursday, January 19, 2023 from 2to 4pm and 7 to 9pm
