Constance (Connie) Stern died suddenly on September 4, 2015, while on a Bermuda cruise with her family. She had been looking forward to having her whole family together in celebration of a special milestone birthday she reached in May.
Born in Nesquehoning, PA, she was the daughter of the late Clara Birnbaum Mittleman and Harry Mittleman. After her mother died, her father married the late Anna Brown, who she always considered her second mother. Upon the passing of both Harry and Anna Brown Mittleman, she was raised by her two loving grandmothers, Anna Schlanger Mittleman Levy and Fannie Brown.
She was an Eternal Light member of Congregation Ohav Zedek, a member of Temple Israel, both of Wilkes-Barre, and the Jewish Community Alliance of Northeastern Pennsylvania, where she enjoyed the congregant meals and playing bridge. She was also a Life Member of Hadassah and a supporter of many organizations and charities.
Surviving are children, Dr. Cathy Stern and spouse Ann Hartstein, Canton, MA, Marcy Weinberg and husband Alan, Kingston, brother Aaron Mittleman, Hackensack, NJ and sister-in-law Lorraine Mittleman, Middletown, NY. Also surviving are granddaughters, Elena Weinberg, Brookline, MA, and Lita Weinberg, Celebration, FL, who lovingly called her Eemie.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Alfred (Freddie) Stern, and brother, Sandor (Sandy) Mittleman.
Thanks to the caring and love of her very dear friend Moshe Agami, she was able to fully enjoy her last years.
Connie passed away doing what she loved most, cruising and being with her entire family. They are so grateful to have spent her last days with her.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 11AM from the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, 348 South River Street, Wilkes-Barre, with Rabbi David Kaplan and Rabbi Larry Kaplan officiating.
Interment will take place at Temple Israel Cemetery, Swoyersville.
Shiva will be observed at her home Wednesday 7-9pm, Thursday 2-4pm and 7-9pm, and Friday 2-4pm.
Memorial contributions may be directed to The Alfred Stern Memorial Holocaust Fund, c/o Jewish Community Alliance of Northeastern Pennsylvania, 60 South River Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
