BERNICE GORDON Obituary

Bernice Gordon, 93, of Dallas, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at the Mercy Center, with her loving family by her side. She shared 68 years of marriage with her loving husband, the late Dr. Daniel Gordon.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Minnie Rovner Klein. A 1937 graduate of West Philadelphia High School, she attended Philadelphia Business College and worked as an executive secretary for Supplee and Biddle. She married the love of her life, Dr. Daniel Gordon, and soon became an army wife. After the war, she settled in Wilkes-Barre to raise her family. She was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed raising 3 daughters while participating in charitable organizations, community theater, and fashion shows. She supported her husband in building his dental practice and served on the Women’s Auxiliary of the Luzerne County Dental Society. She also enjoyed playing the piano by ear and sewing projects. Bernice lived by the golden rule and always counted her blessings. She was always appreciative of kindness shown to her.

She was known to many as “Honey” and her family, extended family and friends loved her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and her beautiful smile. She delighted in the many accomplishments and achievements of her children, grandchildren and extended family. Bernice was a member of Hadassah, the Jewish Community Center, Temple B’nai B’rith , Eastern Star and other civic organizations.

Bernice’s family would like to thank Dr. Robert Engel, the staff at The Village at Greenbriar where she resided for 4 years, the Mercy Center staff, Dr. John Carey, Frann McGynn, and Hospice of the Sacred Heart Nurses for their compassionate care, guidance and professionalism during her later years of life.

She is survived by three daughters, Melissa Quinn and her husband, Thomas Quinn, Harvey’s Lake; Lindsay Nataupsky, and her husband, Dr. Gary Nataupsky, Shavertown; Marianne Faber and her husband, Dr. Scott Faber, Mt. Lebanon; Grandchildren, Thomas Quinn and his fiancée, Rebecca Nicely; Jonathan Quinn and his wife, Minnie Lee Quinn; Jessica Nataupsky Kang and her husband, Atty. Chris Kang; Dr. Jason Nataupsky and his wife, Kelsey; Jillian Nataupsky; Rachel Tobac and her husband, Evan Tobac; and Emily Faber. Two loving siblings survive; Burton Klein and his wife, Sandra, Philadelphia, and Marjorie Shepard, Fair Lawn, New Jersey. There are numerous loving nieces and nephews with special admiration for Larry Schneider, the son Aunt Honey and Uncle Dan never had.

Graveside funeral services will be held Monday, March 31, 2014, at 12:00 noon at Temple B’nai B’rith Cemetery with Rabbi Larry Kaplan officiating.

Shiva will be observed at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Gary Nataupsky, 300 Longmeadow Rd., Shavertown, 7-9 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.

Memorial contributions may be made to Temple B’nai B’rith, the Jewish Community Center, or the donor’s choice.

Graveside funeral services will be held Monday, March 31, 2014, at 12:00 noon at Temple B’nai B’rith Cemetery with Rabbi Larry Kaplan officiating.

Shiva will be observed at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Gary Nataupsky, 300 Longmeadow Rd., Shavertown 7-9 pm, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
