SANDRA GROSS Obituary

Sandra Zoe Gross Himelstein died peacefully in her sleep on May 31, 2018 at the age of 84. Sandra (Sandy) dedicated her life with unconditional love and support to two things: her family and the United Hebrew Institute or UHI (the school she taught at and helped lead during her career).

Sandy was born and lived in the Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania area most of her life and was a resident of Pacifica California for the past five years.

Sandy finished Summa Cum Laude in her class at Wayne State University for her bachelor’s education and received a master’s degree in education from Temple University.

Along with her passion for education, she was involved in her community in Pennsylvania participating in the Chevra Kadisha doing ritual preparation of the dead, president of Anshe Emes Synagogue’s sisterhood and member of Ohav Zedek Synagogue’s sisterhood and board, and fundraising for the UHI.

She enjoyed playing piano, pinochle, mahjong, connecting in person and on facebook with friends and family, and doing difficult jigsaw puzzles.

Sandy is survived by her sons Alan and Mark of Emerald Hills, California and her beloved granddaughter Sammi of Foster City, California. Sandy was a supportive and kind and loving parent and grandparent.

Private family services will be held under the direction of SINAI MEMORIAL CHAPEL, San Francisco. Charitable donations in memory of Sandy may be sent to the Ohav Zedek Synagogue in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania, or to the charity of your choice and are greatly appreciated, and preferred.
