Dr. Sanford B. Sternlieb, of Dallas, died suddenly Saturday, December 8, 2018, at home.
Born in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Herman and Etta Schwartzbach Sternlieb and was a graduate of Kingston High School, Amherst College, the University of Lausanne medical school in Switzerland, Class of 1953 and did his residency in Philadelphia General Hospital. Dr. Sternlieb served his country in the United States Navy as a Frogman, precursor of Special forces and was an orthopedic surgeon, practicing for over 50 years. He was a member of Congregation Ohav Zedek, Temple Bnai B'rith and a member in perpetuity at the Jewish Community Center. He had a strong passion for life, family, the Arts and Music. He enjoyed traveling, cooking, reading and listening to music. He was an art collector and was very active in the Community and Synagogue.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Iskowitz Sternlieb, in 2003; son, Dr. Michael Sternlieb in 1999 and brother Alan Sternlieb.
He is survived by his son, Dr. Jeffrey L. Sternlieb and his wife, Andrea Watkins, Wyomissing, PA; daughter, Susan Joy Sternlieb and her husband, Dan Gould, Fort Collins, CO; companion, Renate Koppleman, Dallas; daughter in law, Diane Sternlieb, Atlanta GA; 7 grandchildren, Dawn Sternlieb, Faith Sternlieb, Rebecca Santillanes, Joanna Ryan, Sarah Sternlieb, Rachal Sternlieb and Eric Sternlieb and 4 great grandchildren, Riley, Emma, Bradyn Santillanes and Harper Rose Ryan.
Funeral service will be conducted on Monday, December 10, 2018, at 2:00 pm at the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, Inc. 348 S. River St. Wilkes-Barre. Interment will follow in Ohav Zedek Cemetery, Hanover Twp.
Shiva will be following the interment and 7-9 Monday and 2-4 and 7-9 Tuesday at 21 Hickory Hill Rd., Dallas.
