Lawrence Henry Evans, of Buck Township, formerly of Kingston, PA and Fairfax, VA, passed away on Thursday evening, April 4, 2024 in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
He was the beloved husband of Marcie Weisberger Evans. Born in Wilkes-Barre in 1949 and raised in Kingston, Larry was the son of the late Betty Davis Evans. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force, including one year in Vietnam. Upon his return from service, Larry earned his Bachelor’s Degree in International Affairs from Wilkes College—the first in his family to obtain a college degree. After his graduation, Larry and Marcie, together since the 1972 Agnes Flood, married and moved to the Washington, DC area. For the next 38 years, they raised their family, living a life full of love, humor, and joy. Larry worked at the Library of Congress and the Congressional Research Service before embarking on his 30-year career at the Transportation Institute, a maritime affairs trade association, starting as a Researcher and Writer, and retiring as a Vice President. Never forgetting where they came from and their fulfilling careers over, Larry and Marcie—who he loved to call “just a couple of coal town kids”—moved back to the Valley in PA. There they started a new adventure on beautiful Indian Lake, where their children and grandchildren love to visit. Larry had an incredible sense of humor, and there was so much laughter in their lives. He was an avid history buff, a voracious reader, a captivating storyteller, and a good, kind and compassionate friend. Larry loved the outdoors, backpacking, fishing, and cross-country skiing. He enjoyed listening to music and watching his woodworking shows. Most of all, Larry just loved every moment with his family, was devoted to his grandchildren and so proud of his sons and daughters-in-law.
Left to cherish his memory and miss him forever are his loving wife of almost 47 years, Marcie Weisberger Evans; sons, Benjamin (Jessica) Evans of Cincinnati, OH, Jeffrey (Shelby) Evans of Arlington, VA, and grandchildren, Ruth and Henry Evans, of Cincinnati.
